vida diaria de Buenos Aires

keys, cacerolazos, eating pastries, host sister with devil dog, Subte.

desastre rosarino

estas fotos son de mi viaje al Rosario, por el cumple 80 de Che Guevara. same day there was a big ass pot banging protest because the police had beaten a bunch of campesinos that were protesting the tax increases in a city, with a name that I can't say ni hardly spell. I took hardly any fotos at the Che stuff.. wasn't very easy and my fingers were congelando.

“The most important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present, and future, always have existed, always will exist. The Tralfamadorians can look at all the different moments just the way we can look at a stretch of the Rocky Mountains, for instance. They can see how permanent all the moments are, and they can look at any moment that interests them. Its just an illusion that we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moments is gone it is gone forever.”

Chacaritas plus

common occurrences:
(host mom in bedroom; Cesar in living room, bitch of a dog in living room; tvs on in every room. Boca scores.)
Boca announcer on tv: GOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL (for about 13-20 seconds)
host mom: GOLLLLLLL! (she can't yell as long because she smokes 2 packs a day)
Cesar: clapping furiously and jumping around saying "vamos vamos vamos!!!"
dog: barking and howling
Cesar walks to the bedroom and they clap together, without really saying a word

woman so old that she walks with a cane, but is still wearing high heels.

roommate: how do you say avocado?
me: aguacate
host mom: no no no no no, that is Mexican
me: oh really? I didn't know that. I saw it on a menu here
host mom: no you didn't

okay. anyway, here are some pictures of my most recent adventure. we decided to hop on the Subte and go somewhere we had never been, on a recommendation by my friend in Mendoza. these are mostly all at the cementerio en Chacaritas, where Carlos Gardel and Alfonsi Storni are buried. they have tons of.. those grave houses, I can't think of the word in english, and then at least 11 of these huge underground circular shaped areas for ashes. the whole place was really well kept though and the caretakers were really nice. I didn't find Alfonsina so I'm going to go back another day, because I really liked the feria over there anyway. as my host mom said it's really cheap because that's where the "common people" live. as opposed to Belgrano where they are all more so rich brats. but she didn't say that part.

the picture with the flag is of one of the more famous statues in the city that is in the middle of the 9 de Julio avenue, "the biggest avenue in the world" even though I would argue it's 2 entirely separate streets.

wine. fernet. Mendoza.

these are all from Mendoza, the wine province of Argentina, with some of "the best wine in the world." Grace and I biked through the vineyards for some wine tasting, and went to see the Boca v. River game at a bar the next day. the people were absolutely amazing. the picture that looks like it should be grapes is actually of olives.. and that is why they don't look like grapes. the one of planks of wood with a light in the left corner is of a spiral staircase from the basement of a vineyard building where they store the wine in barrels.

Valparaíso

twin cities of Chile. Valparaíso being the Minneapolis. Viña del Mar being the cleaner and quieter St. Paul. todas estas fotos están en Valparaíso.

Chile fotos

acá son fotos de mis amigos en Chile. cada argentino que me dijo "Chilenos no son tan amables como nosotros" es un celoso mentiroso.
